  • Start here: the steps, with a link to every sheet
  • Plan: 7 days x 4 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, extra) with servings and notes.
  • Shopping: Up to 200 lines: section, ingredient, needed, have, to buy, unit, and a box to tick on paper.
  • Recipes: Your recipe library: up to 600 ingredient rows, up to 150 recipes.
  • Pantry: Up to 100 things you have at home.

How it works

  • Recipes: one row per ingredient with amount, unit and store section. Up to 150 recipes and 600 ingredient rows.
  • Plan: 7 days x breakfast, lunch, dinner and an extra. Pick a recipe from the list; leave Servings empty to cook it as written.
  • Shopping: the same ingredient with the same unit is added up across all planned recipes, scaled to servings, sorted by store section.
  • Pantry: what you have at home is taken off the list.
  • To buy is rounded up to whole items for counted units (each, can, head, clove and similar); weights and cups keep their decimals.
  • It uses only functions that Excel 2016 has (no FILTER, UNIQUE or other Microsoft 365 functions).

Works in

Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer (tested on Windows). No macros, no add ins, no account. Not tested: Excel for Mac, Excel for the web, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers, phone and tablet apps.

How we test it

Before release both files are opened, recalculated and saved in Microsoft Excel. The sample file has 6,297 formula cells and none shows an error; 1,402 calculated cells were compared with a separate calculation written in Python and all matched, in the sample file and in the empty file. The pictures in this listing are printed from the sample file by Excel.

Good to know

  • Units are not converted: 1 cup of milk and 250 ml of milk stay on separate lines. Use the same unit for an ingredient in all recipes.
  • It plans one week at a time. Save a copy of the file to keep old weeks.
  • Text and labels are in English. Dates show as 26 Nov 2026.
  • For your own home or business use. Please do not share or resell the file.

Before you buy.

How do I get the files?

No physical item is shipped. After Etsy confirms payment, download your files from Purchases and reviews on Etsy.com in a web browser; downloads are unavailable in the Etsy app. Guest buyers can use the download link in their Etsy receipt email.

Which files do I get?
