  • Start here: the steps, with a link to every sheet
  • Plan: Date, serving time, guest count, servings to shop for and the checks (oven clash, missing times, overdue tasks).
  • Guests: Up to 60 rows: people, reply (Yes, No, Waiting), what they bring, diet notes.
  • Menu: Up to 30 dishes with prep, cook and rest minutes and oven temperature. Start times are calculated.
  • Timeline: Every step of the day sorted by time, with how long before serving. Oven clashes are marked.
  • Shopping: Up to 80 items. To buy = per serving x servings + fixed amount, rounded up when you ask.
  • Countdown: Up to 40 tasks, dates counted back from the dinner date, status by today's date.

How it works

  • Start times: Start prep, Start cooking and Done cooking are counted back from serving time for each dish.
  • Oven check: two dishes that need the oven at different temperatures at the same time are marked Oven clash, on Menu and on Timeline.
  • Shopping: To buy = amount per serving x servings + fixed amount, rounded up to whole units when you choose.
  • Countdown status uses today's date: Overdue, Today, This week, Later or Done.
  • Gray cells are calculated and locked without a password (Review, Unprotect Sheet unlocks them).

Works in

Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer (tested on Windows). No macros, no add ins, no account. Not tested: Excel for Mac, Excel for the web, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers, phone and tablet apps.

How we test it

Before release both files are opened, recalculated and saved in Microsoft Excel. The sample file has 1,101 formula cells and none shows an error; 824 calculated cells were compared with a separate calculation written in Python and all matched, in the sample file and in the empty file. The pictures in this listing are printed from the sample file by Excel.

Good to know

  • You type the cooking times, temperatures and amounts from your own recipes. The planner does the clock math; it does not give cooking or food safety advice.
  • Capacity: 60 guest rows, 30 dishes, 80 shopping items, 40 countdown tasks.
  • Text and labels are in English. Dates show as 26 Nov 2026 and times as 4:00 PM.
  • For your own home or business use. Please do not share or resell the file.

How do I get the files?

No physical item is shipped. After Etsy confirms payment, download your files from Purchases and reviews on Etsy.com in a web browser; downloads are unavailable in the Etsy app. Guest buyers can use the download link in their Etsy receipt email.
